CIRD
Centre for Integrated Rural Development (CIRD), is a non-profit, non-governmental organization in Malawi registered under the Malawi Company's Act (No 15 of 2013) in 2017. It is registered with Non-Governmental Organizations Regulatory Authority (NGORA) in 2024, and our registration number is NGO/L/24/071.It is also a member of Council for Non-Governmental Organizations in Malawi (CONGOMA).
Malawi is facing a series of technological, human, social, economic and environmental challenges, which if not resolved, will disrupt the basic life support systems, contribute to the degeneration of institutional structures and perpetuate underdevelopment. Some challenges among the rural communities include:

food insecurity and high rate of malnutrition

widespread poverty

poor healthcare

high rate of illiteracy (low access to quality education)

climate change and high environmental degradation

inadequate access to safe drinking water.
CIRD works towards alleviating these challenges through interventions that promote sustainable development.
Sustainable development is "development that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generation to meet their own needs" (World Commission on Environment and Development, 1987). The achievement of sustainable development requires the combined efforts of government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) using a participatory development strategy. CIRD joins hands together with other NGOs and the government to fight the problems of sustainable development in Malawi.
